Tips for Speaking at Conferences/Getting Speaking Engagements

1. Publish a book.
2. Write and submit articles to print and on-line publications.
3. Submit press releases.
4. Advertise in publications your target audience reads.
5. Create a blog on your topic and updated regularly.

Tips for Speaking at Conferences

• Stick to the time limit you have been given at all costs. Conference programmes have very tight schedules, and running over time is one of the number 1 complaints people make about conferences (besides air-conditioning).
• Practice, practice and practice again, out loud if possible if you are not accustomed to speaking for a long time regularly.
• Archive your presentation file and your notes online - so many presentation files are meaningless outside the context of the talk.
• Got a special need, whether mobility, drink preference, or staging requirements? Tell the organisers, and tell them early in case additional equipment needs to be hired.
